Sgt. Joseph 'Hellraiser' Reyes

History

Joseph Antonio Reyes was born on January 4th, 1997 in East Los Angeles. He came from a proud military family rich with service history. From a young age, Joseph expressed his desires to serve. For many in his family, it was endearing. But as time passed, and war in the East raged on, feelings grew mixed. Many didn't want Joseph to join, in fear of what could happen to him. He was the youngest, their baby. His older brother was especially against his wishes, once he had been through his years in Iraq.As Joseph grew older and older, his feelings hadn't changed. He still wanted to serve, regardless of what he'd been told. It was his decision wasn't it? He wanted to serve, to do right by his country. So when he became of age, that's what he did. He walked to his local recruiter after his shift at the local Tiny Roman's Pizza, signing his life away to the Marine Corps, as his grandfather and brother had done before him. He thought the news would be welcomed by his family with pride and shouts of 'oorah!' and 'get some!'. But he found it to be quite the opposite. His mother cried, his brother shouted and even hit him. He called Joseph an idiot for breaking his family's heart. It weighed heavy on him, but there was no turning back. Bootcamp awaited. And as he found, it was no walk in the park. Even as a young, relatively fit young man, he found it to be hell. He cried, a lot. He ached all over, joints and muscles sore. Fatigue became the usual. He wanted to give up.But every phone call home reinforced his decision to become a Marine. His brother was the one who picked up most of the time, apologizing upon their first call. He told Joseph that he'd see him soon - training wouldn't be long, once he settled in. He just had to keep pushing, Marcos said. And so he did, despite the pain, the brutality of angry DIs, and the questionable conditions of the barracks and showers. Upon graduation, Joseph was officially a Marine - and another line in the legacy of the Reyes family.By the time he was 19, Joseph was selected for deployment to Syria. He was nervous, no doubt. But he was gonna be fine, he just knew it. What was the worst that could happen? Two months into his deployment, Joseph finally ran into his first firefight. After all the dull, lulling days of nothing, the time had come. And god, did it come out of nowhere.Their vehicle was hit by a rocket, tracks blasted apart and engine turned to fiery scrap. The crew was gone, as was their sergeant. But the occupants remained, Joseph amongst them. Amidst smoke and chaos, the exited the vehicles and took defensive positions. They all knew surrender wasn't an option. They'd seen the videos, heard the horror stories. It was a fight to the death - one they may not win, especially with the circumstances they found themselves in. A plan was needed, and fast.It was here that Joseph would earn both respect from his brothers in arms. Under rocket barrages and machine gun fire, he rushed ahead, pulling two wounded marines from the line of fire, and into the arms of a corpsman. And despite such a dangerous move, his bravado was far from depleted. Shouting to his men to provide the necessary covering fire, Joseph began to make a dash for their wrecked APC. This was risky, almost suicidal - but this could work. It had to, his men depended on it.Inside, as smoke blinded and choked him, Joseph felt around to find what he was looking for. Bingo - the rotary launcher, along with the speciality ammunition. He always wanted to fire the incendiary, so why not take the chance?Loading up, he'd line the sights, and begin to rain fire upon the insurgents. Panicked screams and shouts followed soon, as militants began to pour out from the nearby buildings. Joseph was quick to reload each time, an unrelenting shower of hellfire. With the sands now ablaze and the advantage of shock and awe now back in their hands, Joseph and his fellow marines rallied together, pushing back the staggered, shocked insurgents. They fought like devils, clearing out whatever men still stood their ground. Amongst them, Joseph, leading the way. He never knew it, but he was a natural born leader. In the heat of combat, under the stress and weight of keeping the others alive, he took charge. It was almost natural, an instinct from within. It was this moment that cemented him as a marine, tried and true. For the rest of his deployment, he carries himself much the same way. But he never lost that spark, that charm. Always the 'little brother', a goofball and joker. Even as he got a rather serious, though admittedly sick, name - what marine wouldn't want to be called Hellraiser?Joseph's superiors, having seen his dedication, adaptability, and perseverance in the heat of battle, selected him and several other marines for MARSOC, 'Marine Raiders' as they were famously known. And from there, his reputation only grew. As his deployments and record grew, he was considered an excellent Marine, one who fought like hell to protect those around him and to complete his objectives. His current mission objectives are considered classified, but there are rumors that have spread..Some say he serves as a new member in the secretive ' Taskforce 141 ' .Others claim he now served with supposed ' SCP Foundation ', a squad leader for Upsilon-11. Though, these claims are dubious and often met with criticism and skepticism..At the end of the day, however, no one is certain for sure as to what he does these days. And he's keen to keep it that way.

Joseph has often been described as a 'younger brother' by his peers. Being a family man, Joseph often grows very attached to his team, findings various ways to bond and grow together. He might get on their nerves from time to time, but he means well and will always be there when they need him.He is also ever the optimist and very quick-witted. Even in a rough situation, when things look bad, you can expect Joseph to have a grin on his face and the gears turning in his head. If his team needs a plan, you can count on him.Unfortunately, Joseph isn't without his faults. He is a loudmouth and avid trash-talker, not to mention very competitive as well. And on top of that, his temper is quick to rise if things aren't going the way he planned or if you cross certain lines, like insulting a friend or family member. And no, he isn't above a fist fight.Despite all this, there is one thing that keeps Joseph from going too far - his team. They're quick to help deescalate situations ( or back him up, if need be ).
